How to Plant a Raised
Vegetable Garden
by Julie McMurchie
Filling your raised garden bed begins with a weed barrier, something that
will help keep weeds and grass from growing up through the bottom.
Newspaper (black print, non glossy only) and cardboard are excellent
weed blockers.

Next in is a layer of organic material such as compost, or peat moss, then
the soil. Compost is also one of the best soil conditioners, and should be
mixed into the soil.

Garden soil can be purchased from your local garden center. Organic is
always best, and though it may cost a little more, at least you know there
are no harmful chemicals in it.
